Cultured – Spicy Oregano Purple Carrots

Cultured began 13 years ago as a side endeavor Alex Hozven could pursue after her first born son.  Craving sour foods while pregnant, Alex took to her apartment kitchen and began experimenting.  Fast-forward 13 years and Cultured has taken the Bay Area by storm.  For the Spicy Oregano Purple Carrots, Alex predominantly sources from River Dog Farm in Yolo County, California.  It is important to Alex to use only certified organic ingredients from local farms that she has been able to develop relationships with over the years.  She laments the fact that markets are full of overly pasteurized, overly pickles made with vinegar.  Cultured uses a natural fermentation process, which slowly creates a sour flavor in their products and thereby a deeper, more complex final flavor.  The product is alive and good for digestion.  Ultimately, it tastes great and makes you feel great.
